I looked through dozens and dozens of teakettles before settling on this one, the selling point being that it matches my simple lines collection, however, other than boiling water, it fails. The whistle, does not whistle. It might give a super faint whooooo sound once the water is rapidly boiling. When I open the valve (if the pot is more than 3/4 full), the boiling water shoots out, and when pouring, the water initially flows backwards down the neck all over the counter, no matter how I angle it or how slowly or quickly I start to pour. The size is great, it is large, it is solid, and looks pretty on my stove. I like the stout design, and the shiny black handle.

Low-cost - no frills kettle

Though this one is on the cheap side, I like it. It reminds me of my grandmother's tea kettle. It is neatly enclosed with a convenient flip up flap - fairly simple design. We switched away from copper-bottom one because of concern over ingesting the mineral. Overall I'm happy with this one - but a couple of concerns: The whisle is a bit inconsistent and low volume. Sometimes I don't hear it right away. Also - when pouring, I can't seem to stop some hot water from spilling out and down the front of the pot (not in my cup or bowl). Again - at the price, I don't care so much about that (gives me a chance to clean my counter with some nice hot water ;) ).

Boils without whistle

I purchased this kettle because it was more expensive than another unit that was reviewed poorly for not whistling when the water came to a boil. However, this unit appears to have the same flaw. The lid/button linkage seems to be poorly designed - the lid never closes completely, therefore steam escapes without blowing thru the whistle hole. I fiddled with pulling the red button up and pressing the lid down, but other than a constant firm pressure holding the lid down, the lids not going to close tight enough to work correctly. Stainless, yes. Tea kettle, sure. Whistle, no way.

I like this teakettle. It holds alot, pours out well and looks pretty on my stove. The only flaw is the "whistle". Not my idea of a whistle. It sounds more like water through rusted pipes. What a strange sound it makes. I'm hoping I'll get used to it but the first time I heard it was quite startling, to say the least. LOL

I had recently purchased a new flat top stove and needed a good flat bottom Teakettle. Bought this Teakettle cause it matched my dinnerware and wanted a 2 1/2 quart Teakettle. Teakettle looked Great but soon realized that it was the worst pouring Teakettle I have ever used. Advertised as 2 1/2 quart and it does hold 2 1/2 quarts but has a sticker "Max Fill" that is just over 2 cups. After using it I assume the reason for the Max Fill sticker is that this Teakettle cannot pour without dripping when the level is over 2 cups. This kettle "SUCKS" I have to wipe the counter and bottom of Teakettle everytime I pour out a cup until the level drops below 2 cups. Think Corelle needs to go back to the drawing board on this Teakettle. Only gave it 1 star cause system would not let me give it a ZERO!

The only problem I have with it is that the lip of the opening is a bit abrasive. Care must be taken when washing out the inside of the kettle. If not for this drawback I would've given it five stars. It looks great sitting on my stove, and the Amazon price is the best I saw for it. On other web-sites they wanted from $66 to $103 for the pot.

This pot looks great. Over time it built up a lot of residue inside and dark spots on the outside. I don't have a lot of experience with teapots, so this could be true of any pot. Outside of that the hardware held up nicely.

Customer service for this product is fantastic! I was given this teakettle as a gift and the one that arrived leaked around the spout. I contacted the company and they sent me a second one. Which also leaked around the spout. The company then sent me a third kettle. This one does not leak as much/badly as the first two, which I why I kept it but it does still leak a bit around the spout. I'd have rather gotten one that didn't leak. It is beautiful and does its job though

I have owned this tea kettle for about 10 years. Not only is it fully functional as staple in my kitchen, it's adorable. Everyone who enjoys tea at my house comments on it. It is very durable, heavily constructed, and uniquely designed by Michael Graves. And of course, it "whistles". This is one tea kettle that you'll never have to replace; you won't be disappointed. It looks as good today as the day I opened the box. It's definitely a 5-star item.

An artistically beautiful tea kettle that is also practical

This is a useful and artistically beautiful kettle. The whistle is not too loud but it whistles. You need to remove the bird whistle before pouring the hot water out and do not forget to use a glove as the escaping steam may burn your fingers. This kettle was considered a classic piece of modern art to merit a spot at the Musem of Modern Art in New York City (I believe the version there is the anodized one which is no longer sold in the USA). If you lose the whistle, you can replace it for under $15.00 depending where you purchase it from. If you do not care about a beautiful piece of art in your kitchen then this kettle is not for you.

You know it when you see it, there is no other like it. I use mine daily and have for more than 15 years. I've replaced the bird once, though I did buy several extras. The first one broke after only a few months, but the replacement has been in use for the balance of the 15 years. The shinny finish is all scratched from cleaning and the bottom needs a really good scrubbing around the edges occasionally. There is some mildew build up in the rim on the bottom. I wish I'd taken better care cleaning it over the years, so it would have stayed all shinny, but with splatter from all the other things cooking on the stove, it required some scrubbing. If I'd thought about it, I'd have moved it off the stove when I was cooking other things. If it wasn't so expensive, I'd get another, but the one I have was a gift and hard to part with. So, bottom line, it holds up well, does everything it's designed to do. The handle is cool to the touch, but you do have to remove the bird to pour, so wait a minute after a full boil, and the bird should cool completely before replacing it, so it doesn't crack. It looks beautiful for years, but you should take extra care to preserve the original shinny look.

It does what it's supposed to do beautifully and quickly: look good and boil water. However, I was disappointed that my whistle does not sing like a bird or sing much at all. Also, it didn't occur to me that before I pour water from the kettle the bird must be removed. It's a bit of hassle, so we just leave it off much of the time.

I was looking for a decent kettle for weeks before I finally decided on the Oxo Click Click. The kettle isn't too expensive and works like a charm. The spout doesn't spray water everywhere and the whistle works everytime. The spout is very easy to open and close with the click click function, makes it really easy to fill with water, and the shape is great. The opening provides lots of room to clean the kettle. I bought it as a gift for my mom on mother's day and everyone comments on the kettle's sleek and modern design. It looks great in the kitchen. I've only had the kettle for a month now but have found no problems yet. The kettle gets used quite a bit in our household, probably at least 6 times a day or more. (We drink a lot of coffee and tea throughout the day). I prefer the brushed steel over the polished steel and colored kettles. I was originally planning to get the polished steel (shiny) but when I saw it in person, it tends to look a little cheap in my opinion. My second choice was the red color but it just wasn't as bright as the pictures made it seem online (more of a dull red-orangey color). If you want to check it out in person, most of the Target stores I visited had them.

I bought this kettle in turquoise, and the color looks great in my kitchen. I also like that it's bigger than some of the premium kettles that have the same lovely harmonica whistle. The water has to boil for a bit before the whistle kicks in, but it works fine. The handle does not get too hot to hold for pouring, so I don't need a potholder (which was why I didn't get the one of the all stainless steel ones like Chantal that are also more expensive). My only problem is that the way the holes are positioned on the whistle, it is hard to push it back for pouring without burning your fingers. Turn off the heat and wait for the water to stop boiling first, and then you can do the whole pouring thing without needing a potholder. I had bought the same kettle on eBay and got a defective one, with a non-functioning whistle and a too-loose lid and handle, so I do know what other reviewers mean when they complain about these problems. But the one I bought here works fine and looks great!

Beautiful - but no whistle

I have the sort of affection for this tea kettle that one might have for a watchdog that hides under a table when burglars appear. Such a dog can be a great pal, but it doesn't perform all the expected functions. This is a beautiful tea kettle. It is just the right size and it looks very attractive displayed on my stove. It is not, however, a whistling teakettle. No amount of boiling will induce it to whistle. It IS possible for the lid to fall off whilst pouring. I assure you, when this happens, noise is made as the boiling water pours over one's hand. So, handle this little beauty with care. It still makes a lovely pet. And it does boil water.

As with other reviews, this tea pot doesn't whistle. I got it for my wife for Christmas. The first time she used it, it failed to make any noise at all. As a result, it went dry and the enamel on the bottom cracked and peeled off. It looks great but doesn't work well.

I received this tea kettle as a Christmas gift, and it looks beautiful on my stovetop, and although I've used it a few times, I think it may be more for looks than function. The handle doesn't move and is fixed in an upright position. It heats water very quickly on my gas stove, but that wooded handle gets really hot when the water in the kettle comes to a boil. I just get the feeling that I'll need to treat this item very gently - certainly no high heat - in order to preserve it.

This really is a beautiful kettle. I am not disappointed with how it looks. I seem to have a different problem to the other review that I read. The handle bends and the water heats really really fast. The wooden handle did not get hot, just don't touch it anywhere else. However my kettle is not whistling. There are no instructions on the point so I assume there isn't anything that I have to do to make it whistle. I live outside of the U.S. so it would be a pain to return it. If I were in the U.S. I would return it for another just like it because it really does look good.

I've searched a long time for a decent teakettle. I actually drink a lot of tea, and have been through about 8 teakettles looking for one that I could love. I've found it! This teakettle has a cute little design (the flared bottom) that is also very practical. It covers more surface area, so it boils faster - and it really does. I've always hated the whistle on teapots, and usually find myself tripping over the cats on my way to grab the kettle off the stove because I couldn't handle the noise. This whistle is nice and gentle, it doesn't make me jump out of my skin, and my husband can sleep through it. I haven't experienced the diminished whistle mentioned in other reviews. The handle is comfortable from whichever position you grab it, and high enough so that you aren't burning yourself when you grab it, you can get the lid off easily, and since your hand isn't right over the spout, no danger of steam burns. The only thing I would recommend is flipping the cover open before you pick up the kettle - it's slightly awkward until you get used to it.When I was ready to buy a new teapot, I was prepared to spend a lot of money to finally get a decent one. I didn't need to - this economical find has everything I was looking for. I've actually purchased three - one for me, one for my sister-in-law, and one for my mother. We're all very happy!

I'm in love with this tea kettle! It exceeded my expectations. The design is sleek and the weight just right. The spout works easily and best of all it has a whistle I can really hear-- you can't imagine how may bottoms I have boiled out of tea kettles because I forgot about them-- well, never again. This one lets me know with a nice loud but not shrill whistle when it is boiling. The handle is easy to grasp and doesn't get hot and the spout doesn't splatter all over the place. I had my Revereware whistling tea kettle for 20 years, and it finally developed a little rust spot on the interior and lost part of its whistle mechanism this month. I used that little kettle an average of twice a day, so I estimate I boiled water in it over 14,000 times! When I tried to replace it, I found the 'new' Revere kettles are flimsy in comparison .... a pale ghost of the old workhorse. I searched and searched for a replacement kettle I could live with; price was not an issue. I got my Tiburon teakettle last week and have had a chance to take it for a test drive. After reading some of the reviews on this kettle, I didn't know if I'd be happy with the spout mechanism, but it is really a nice feature and easy to use. I especially like the way it 'locks' open until manually closed. The little top-fill lid is a great feature and will allow me to keep the inside spotless. The way this kettle flares out on the bottom to completely cover the large electric burners on my stove is impressive .... water heats very quickly, and the top and sides of the kettle stay cool. The handle is sturdy and pretty, and it stays completely cool to the touch. The whistle is delightful ... more than strong enough to alert me to boiling water, but it doesn't set my dog to howling if I leave it whistling for 10 seconds. This is a really pretty design, much nicer than kettles I looked at in my local department store that were priced at 3 or 4 times as much. This kettle seems to be worth the $40 full retail price, but if you can get it on sale for $12.99 (as I did), grab it! I don't really expect 14,000 servings of tea from any kettle in this day of throwaway appliances, but this is a good buy.

This is a really great teakettle. You should buy it if you need one-- and the price is fantastic-- I just bought two more. I really loved my kettle-- then I knocked it off the stove accidently and the whistle and handle broke. So I ordered another and then another after that, rather than pay for shipping- now there is a spare! Alot of these reviews are just wacky. Are these people high? Nitpicky. Delusional, maybe. I learned to take these online reviews with the proverbial grain or two of salt. I almost was afraid to order this kettle in the first place because of reading some of the reviews that made it sound so bad-- and as it turns out, it's great! I took the broken whistle mechanism apart, so now I can adjust the spring in the current kettle to make the whistle louder, if I want. There is definately a variation. The second kettle has a whistle 40 % quieter than the first, and the loudness is a function of how hard the whistle is pressing against the spout. I use this to make coffee

This kettle is great for boiling water for French Press and Melitta Cone coffee. Because of its efficient design, this kettle boils water almost as quickly as an Electric Kettle (it takes less than 4 minutes to boil a quart of water on an electric stove). The upside to this kettle, unlike an Electric Kettle, is it doesn't eat up more counter space, and looks nice sitting on the stove. Also, its stainless steel design will keep the water from cooling down while you pour the hot water on the coffee grounds. This is absolutely critical for a good brew. I really love the spout. With many kettles, you have to constantly push a button in order to keep the spout open. With this kettle, you can keep the spout securely open without having to constantly press down on a button. This makes it easier to carefully pour the hot water over the coffee grounds. The whistle isn't very loud, but it is loud enough to tell you the water is boiling. Honestly, I don't understand why some reviewers want a whistle that is loud enough to wake up the neighborhood. You can pretty well figure out how long it takes to boil water in this kettle after using it a few times. You might not hear it if you want to go upstairs and scream at your kids, but it is never a very swift idea to leave things boiling on a stove unattended.

Since I've taken up tea drinking again and my kids love hot cocoa in winter, I decided to invest in a nicer kettle. I chose this one because it had so many good reviews and I'm glad I did. I love the color and shape, it is a breeze to clean and fill, and it's easy to pour. I haven't had any trouble with spilling, and I do like the silicone around the handle - although I wish they made the silicone cover the entire handle instead of just middle. Overall, I'd buy it again.

It's beautiful and I love the look of it. But I specifically spent the extra money so that I would have a GOOD tea kettle that whistles. It sputters, it spits, it hisses (a little, if the water is really rolling), but it doesn't whistle. I read the reviews and knew this was a possibility; I had just hoped mine would be different. Everything about this kettle is just as it should be...except, it doesn't whistle. Not a peep. Never has, and probably never will. Maybe I received a defective kettle? I bought this model because I needed a loud whistle. Tea kettles have short lives around here when people forget that water is boiling and burn the bottom. I thought this kettle would be the answer to that problem. But, I can see that I will need to shop around again in the near future for another brand. The look and color (mustard)is bright and cheerful in a modern kitchen, and it's easy to use. It's safe to handle. No steam pouring out to burn your hands. It cleans up easy with dishsoap and water. All good points in a teakettle...but it won't last long in our household. If you need a whistling teakettle, look elsewhere.

I bought this December 22, 2009 to replace an old kettle that was on its last leg. The kettle is a nice color, large capacity and the grip is very nice. The big problem is I chose this kettle over a Martha Stewart style because it is supposed to whistle. I get side tracked doing other stuff easily and I need one that whistles (basically so I don't burn down the house!). This one barely lets out a tiny little peep once in a while. I have heated water in it 11 times, thinking maybe this time it'll kick in. NO...so this is going back.

I buy hardly any kind of product these days without consulting Amazon reviews first. This latest experience is a reminder of why. If I had read these reviews first, I would have been forewarned. Quite simply, the kettle does not whistle. The box says, "Strong, loud whistle" but the kettle itself remains silent. The cap over the spout has a hole in it, with nothing across it or over it that might induce a whistle. Perhaps it is a mute whistle, for use at tea parties in Carthusian monasteries. I have a half-century of experience with tea kettles and have known them lose their whistle, have a poor whistle or even too loud a whistle, but this is the first I have seen that was born utterly whistleless. I'll now look for another kettle and yes, I will read the reviews first.

I've had this kettle for about 7 years and I felt compelled to give it my" thumbs up". I moved recently and had to leave my kettle behind. I am looking for a temporary replacement but none of the kettles I've looked at seemed to have all of the qualities I look for: design, whistle, cool handle, quick boil, no-fuss whistle removal, and capacity. Well, this kettle has it all (it's not modern, but the design is simple and timeless)! The whistle is in the spout, so there's nothing to remove when you pour ( this doesn't affect the water flow). Boils water super-fast! The handle is always cool (wood). Love it! Of course, it is a bit pricey, but it will last you a lifetime.

I am extremely pleased with this tea kettle. I have had many whistling tea kettles over my lifetime, but I definitely like this one the best of all. Aesthetically, it is a beautiful tea kettle and has an old fashioned charm. It feels very solid and not flimsy at all. In the past, I have had tea kettles that once they whistle and you go to pour the hot water into your cup or tea pot, they sputter all over the place -- sometimes even splashing your hands a bit! The Simplex Chrome Whistling Tea Kettle is the fastes boiling kettle that I have ever found. It has a large capacity and is, to my eye, extremly attractive. The whistle is loud enough to be heard through out the house. I believe that the all copper version is a little faster to come to a boil, but as copper has to be cleaned constantly to look good, I'd rather wait the extra few moments to achieve a boil for the "wash and ware" chrome model. This extremly well made kettle has been in constant use in my home for 18 years. It has paid for it's self may times over with it's quick to boil design and when the time comes to replace this old friend I will pay what ever price I have to replace it with another Simplex Chrome Whistling Gas Stove Tea Kettle.

Bought this to replace our Chantal Classic 1 4/5qt tea kettle. First of all, it's absolutely beautiful from every angle. A really gorgeous kettle, classic curves, stunning!!! A true timelessness, like having the Queen Mother in your kitchen, boiling up a spot of tea. We've gotten compliments from everyone, from Al the plumber to the newly married Google exec (who was a bit wistful at having recently chosen the Chantal). Next point of comparison, function: the kettle has a turned wooden handle and can therefore be picked up off the boil without a potholder, a difference that we appreciated after the Chantal. Also the whistle is built into the lid, and will never need to be replaced, which is why we got rid of the Chantal (it had a gorgeous train-like harmonic whistle, but the reed-fitting costs $20+ to replace, and stopped working after a few months). After using it whistle-less for a period of time we decided to go with a replacement that would save us money by using less energy rather than spending money buying replacement parts. Also, the Simplex is a breeze to keep shiny and clean, buffs clean with a dry or damp cloth, cleans up like brand-new even after sullen teenagers have splatter-fried foods on the neighboring burner. By comparison, the Chantal charcoal grey enamel required it's own bullet-point on my to-do list when needing to be cleaned. In addition this kettle holds a generous amount of water, enough to brew up four giant mugs of tea or fill a large french coffee press with water left over for a cup or two of hot cocoa for the kids. Finally, energy efficiency. Before tossing the Chantal into the Good Will box I conducted a test to see if the coils on the bottom of the new kettle really did make a difference: The Simplex boiled the same amount of water on the same flame setting in exactly 3/4th's of the time; 6 minutes vs. 8 minutes for the Chantal. Oh, and by the way, even the teenagers give the new kettle two sullen thumbs up. I haven't told them yet that "Good Will Box" is really a euphemism for "stuff you get to take when you leave for college."

Whistle barely made a sound

The kettle was fine for the price, but the whistle was more of a hiss. The plastic was in flames the last time I used the kettle and left the room, and I nearly set the kitchen on fire. I accept that this was my own fault, but if you want to rely on the whistle, do not get this item. I've learned my lesson and have ordered an electric tea kettle with auto-shutoff. I gave two stars for boiling water, but no more because people who buy whistling tea kettles generally want the whistle to work.

This is actually a great tea kettle! I bought it to replace a Pfaltzgraff that had basically rusted inside - who knew you shouldn't leave water in a kettle :) This does not have a kettle, which for me personally was great. I find kettles with whistles annoying. Oddly enough, you can actually "hear" when your water is boiling. When you turn the fire on under it, it makes a slight bubbling sound - then goes quiet once it reaches a boil. It's easy to keep it clean; pours very smoothly compared to my old kettle; and is a perfect size for a few cups of tea. My only peeve initially is that the handle does not rotate - it's a fixed handle, but I got over it quickly enough.

I have had this teakettle for about 3 years, and it has been great! I like that there isn't a whistle, it pours really nicely, has never dripped on me, and has a wide enough opening to get water in and a sponge when you want to clean it. I'm now replacing it b/c I am a lazy kettle owner and have left water in it constantly so it's getting rusty. It also sits out on my stove and grease and other stove ookiness has gotten all over the outside and it's past the point of cleaning. That's my own fault though, like I said I'm a lazy kettle owner and didn't clean it like I should have. Great kettle.

An excellent teakettle for the money. Holds 2.5 quarts, and has an opening large enough to get your hand into to dry and wash the inside. Directions do state not to allow water to stand in it for prolonged periods because it will rust over time. This isn't a problem with the large opening. This one doesn't have a whistle - and the handle stays cool to the touch. Easy to fill, easy to clean, and easy on the wallet. Good value overall.

I really like this tea kettle. Looks great in my kitchen, and works very well. The only complaint I have is that it was when I first got it it was, and still is very difficult to get the lid off. I'm not sure if other people had this problem, but I have pry the lid off with other kitchen utensils every time I use it.

I received my teapot this afternoon, un-packaged it and hand washed it..filled it with water and put it on my gas stove. Turned the flame to Medium as the instructions suggested..and after several minutes..a very LOUD whistle that caused my puppy to do the head tilt..so cute! Anyway..gorgeous candy apple SHINY red, not dull like the pic suggests...I did NOT need a pot holder to lift kettle off the stove, plastic squeeze handle is awesome, very easy to squeeze and tilt kettle and pour with one hand. My only slight concern is that the metal the kettle is made out of seems a bit on the thin side, was hoping it would have more weight to it..but it seemed to work just fine the way it is...so if there's any change in performance, I'll be sure to post another review!

I love this teapot! It whistles very loudly ( I'd rather that then have it be too low and burn away to nothing ) and is very nice looking. The way the handle allows you to open the tea pot prevents you from burning yourself with splashed water. The only reason I gave it a 4 stars instead of five is the black handle gets A LITTLE hot . Not much. But I was thinking it was silicone for some reason and didn't get hot. But it gets slightly hot. It is totally able to be held without a pot holder but I just wanted to note it is not totally heat resistant. I love this tea kettle though...really its awesome.

We have had one of the Revere tea kettles for almost 26 years and the only thing wrong with it is that the mechanism for opening the spout has broken. If I could purchase that mechanism, I would and would just keep using the current kettle. However, I bought a new one and look forward to several years of reliable service. You can pour accurately with this kettle -- no drips or spills. Many reviewers note that this kettle is hard to clean (inside). I agree with them but use a little white vinegar solution (vinegar and water) inside the kettle and allow it to sit for a while. This seems to get most of any residue out of the kettle. Just swish the solution around a bit and you're good to go with a clean pot. I also put this pot into the diswasher occasionally and that gets off any grease on the outside of the kettle. It's great to have a shiny copper bottom and you can get that very easily. However, I use this kettle every-day-every-day and have settled for an occasional cleaning of the rim to make it look shiny to the casual observer. This is really a good tea kettle.

I love this little tea kettle. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's hard to clean (can't get a brush in there to scrub) and the handle does get a little hot. (I just use a pot holder to pick it up.) Otherwise this kettle is great! The whistle isn't so loud that it hurts your ears while you're in the same room, but it is loud enough to hear in another room.

I've read on another sites, reviews that it doesn't whistle, another said rust in two days. Hey for $19 and free shipping it's hard to beat. Works great, looks great and whistles like a steam engine. It's instructions, as in most kettles say, don't leave water in them, but I do and it hasn't shown any indication of rust. So far so good, I recommend this kettle.

You don't need to spend [price] on a tea kettle! This was an excellent buy (and I got it for the higher price of [price]!!). The price can't be beat for the quality. The kettle sings loudly when ready and the lid comes off for easy cleaning. It's durable and nice looking as well. I've bought other kettles I haven't been nearly as happy with and they cost more. And there is no enamel to chip off like those "fancy" kettles often have. One great feature this kettle can claim is a very smooth pouring action--no dribbles and drips.

This teakettle is just wonderful. I love how the top opens for easy cleaning. I have fairly large hands and find it easy to get my hand in there and clean. A must have for me. The lid snaps right back on nice and tight. The whistle works great. My girls just love to hear the sound. The pour spout works great. I bought mine as a gold box offer and am very pleased with it so far. My concerns about a rolled seam below the water-line proved unjustified. The lid is large enough for someone to reach into the kettle to clean and inspect for lime build-up. The lid on mine snaps closed tightly and does not leak steam, but I suppose it could leak if dropped and damaged. The whistle is loud (which means there is no steam leakage past the lid). The kettle has a flat bottom that is below the seam, so it will work well on an electric stove, even one of those Corning glass-top heating elements. I use a gas stove, and can maintain boiling water with the flame turned down to where it is nearly extinguished, so the kettle is fairly efficient at holding heat even though it is not insulated in any way.

Bargain kettle for smooth-tops

Unlike many similar but more expensive kettles, the rolled seam at the bottom of the kettle does _not_ hold the bottom up off a smooth-top range. It heats water quickly, handle stays cool, and is the right size for a full pot of tea. There may be better kettles for gas ranges, which apparently can heat the handle.

Ok....so I didn't order this teakettle for a long, LONG time because reviewers were saying that it didn't whistle. I thought it didn't make any noise at all. But, I loved its looks so I decided to order it anyway. The yellow color is a buttery yellow. The kettle is good and heavy and the enamel seems to be thick and evenly applied. But the sound....the sound is SO cool! It doesn't whistle like your Grandma's teakettle but it does make a sound. It starts out low and gets louder the longer it boils. It is a low and deep sound like a warning siren. You'll never have to worry about your kettle boiling dry. This kettle will alert you in plenty of time. I'm really enjoying the whole item from shape to color to sound.

I love the teakettle, cute shape, gorgeous red color, good price, good size for 2 or 3 mugs of tea like I make, handle doesn't get too hot to grip, can see into the glass lid. I do wish it was light colored inside. [...]The two little harmonica reeds are tack welded inside a metal disc. It is held inside the spout cap by a tiny philips head screw. A large jewelers screwdriver works. There is a spring that the disc floats on, which can fall out when you remove the disc and is easily repositioned around the screw hole. The tightness of the spring (adjusted by the screw) affects whether it whistles or not, I tested adjusting by about half turns until I found the right spot, which for mine was fairly loose. Also the reeds can be carefully adjusted, gently bending them closer to or farther from the plate they are attached to, using something like a toothpick, until they blow easily just by blowing on the disc. DH is always working on his harmonicas so he knew all about it, as well as how exactly they have to be adjusted. Make sure to put the disc back in so you see the holes, not the reeds. I'm actually using the original disc, now that I have it adjusted well. So if your a bit handy, you give it a try! Hmmm, I see amazon deleted before where I said I contacted the manufacturer and they will send a replacement disc kit. UPDATE: Even with my best efforts the whistle has not been dependable and I need one that will whistle loudly every time. Also the interior is black, and I was wiping it out and found black all over my tea towel, so this got returned, sigh.

I love the sound of this teakettle - it sounds closer to a train horn (though not quite as deep) than the typically shrill tea kettle sound. Also, it's loud enough to notice but not so loud as to be annoying, especially early in the morning. The diameter of the top opening is about 4", and the handle completely swings 90° in either direction, which should make it pretty easy to clean unless you have very large hands. The base is about 7¼" in diameter, so unless you have a very large burner you shouldn't need to worry about the flames creeping up the sides of the tea kettle. The handle, spout cap, and knob atop the glass lid are plastic, perhaps a tad cheap looking compared to the overall impression of quality I perceive from the rest of the tea kettle. Note that, as another reviewer has pointed out, the color isn't as vibrant as the picture indicates - I bought the red model and it certainly is not the bright red shown in the picture, even when viewed under a very bright white light.

I got this tea kettle as a Christmas present and I LOVE IT It s absolutely adorable I leave in on top of my stove all the time because it just makes me smile when I see it I drink a lot of green tea and also often boil water for instant soups and this tea kettle is just perfect It s very easy to pour the hot water and it s just so easy to use in general I LOVE the loud whistle It s impossible to ignore which is exactly what I need I work from home as a programmer and I become so absorbed in my work that I ignore the phone the doorbell the washer and dryer signals but not the tea kettle Someone said in another review that you need a towel to open the spout but I have the Giraffe kettle and I don t have that problem I can open the spout with my hand immediately after I hear the whistle and it s not hot Same with the handle it doesn t get hot I never use a potholder to pick it up I do use medium heat on my stove as suggested in the instructions maybe if you use high heat then the handle and spout will get hot And even at medium heat this tea kettle boils water really really fast

Yes it s big but I didn t think it was heavy I JUST WEIGHED THIS KETTLE WHILE IT WAS FULL OF WATER AND IT ONLY WEIGHS 6 POUNDS I can see that if you have trouble lifting a cat or bag of flour then you may have a problem here The craftsmanship is pure Kitchenaid You will have no problem there But beware that ONLY the stainless steel version is usable on glass top stoves The ceramic covered versions are NOT For those that don t know you can click on this product to see what a glass top stove range looks like Ceramabryte 28oz Cooktop Cleaner The whistle is a bit screechy but then again you want it to alert you over the noise of the house The handle DOES get hot Not burn your hand hot but very warm If you only touch the rubber part you re fine but you almost have to grab the whole thing to lift it and pour it safely I highly recommend getting the stainless steel version it s beautiful and functional

I have no idea what some other reviewers are complaining about The handle does not get hot when I use high heat on my gas stove It does not leak steam from lid at high heat It does not dribble when I pour boiling water into mug It is easy to fill either using spout or taking off lid I am only writing this review to offset the other reviews which are unfairly negative Well you can t please everyone The terra cotta color is beautiful the kettle is very well made and it performs as a tea kettle is expected to perform I really like it

I have had 3 or 4 kettles in the last couple of years The Oxo which is as more expensive went to hell so fast it was bizarre warped looking like it was fished out of a dumpster Then I got another one that was a disaster also got ugly weeks into its tour of duty Second one was an even bigger disaster though because the hole was not big enough to get my hand down inside and white stuff started to appear in the water This one works fine and there is no problem pouring using it It is staying clean though as is the case w all stainless keeping it clean means special treatment Still 10x better than the other two I had

Best I ve ever used Beautiful stainless not much else to say To rebut some of the complaints thus far It s not heavy at all It s about the same as any other kettle As far as the handle getting hot well the core of the handle is metal so obviously the metal part is going to be hot However the rubber grip is there for a reason If you grab the rubber part it isn t hot This isn t rocket science Splashing I don t know what these people are talking about I guess if you re moving the kettle all around while you re pouring it will probably splash but that goes for anything Lastly the sound This is one area that is a bit of a double edged sword Yes it is a little screechy and LOUD In fact this is probably the loudest kettle I ve ever heard However the whole point of it is to catch your attention and it certainly does that very well In summary if you want a nice looking stainless functional well made kettle for a good price you can t go wrong If you can t lift 5 pounds or have no control over the motion or position of your hands you should probably just avoid kettles in general If you don t want a loud annoying sound boil your water in a pot

There is not a whole lot that can be said for this kettle it boils water and it whistles Nothing speacial I got it this past Christmas 06 and to date Jan 16 07 it s still whistling It looks great with the brushed stainless look it is relatively heavy gauge steel depending on how large your gas flame is the handle don t get too hot and I am basically very happy with it plus it is very affordable and worth the price and more It is 18 10 gauge stainless steel I cannot find a country of manufacture on the kettle and the box is long gone so I am not sure where it is made

In the market for a good tea kettle Then look no further When the time came for me to get a tea kettle this was the one I looked for I grew up with this one in the house and it s just as great for my needs Ok being single 3 5 quarts may be a bit bigger then I normally use but I just add as much water as I need and set it on the stove The water heats quickly Steam sets off a whistle in the spout and it can be heard with ease in any part of the house I looked at other Revere kettles but found their handles and spout openers to be rather flimsy Not so here This kettle will last for quite awhile As always Revere has made a wonderful product It s so easy even this bachelor has no problem heating water

So it is not the most beautifully designed kettle whose stylish exterior would enliven your kitchen It also does not open and allow easy cleaning BUT I have used mine since 1976 and it is still going strong Never ever had a problem with it The whistle can be heard all over the house so you know when the water is ready No guess work here It is light weight and can be lifted and used with one hand All of it s wonderful qualities that I took for granted were magnified for me when I recently decided to buy a new kettle After all 28 years warrants a new kettle right I bought the Analon which had no reviews but looked oh so pretty It is so heavy I need both hands to just lift it when it is not filled with water The snazzy squeezable handle that operates the spout barely opens and it is awkward to use The whistle is almost non existant and the water takes forever to boil It makes the tea preparation process a chore not a joy Having learned my lesson and scouring these pages for reviews of good kettles I decided to buy this model again After all it is the kettle that could perform on all the necessary levels Tried and true

I have used a Revere teakettle for 41 years To clean it all you need to do is take some Easy Off oven cleaner spray type and spray the stainless steel part This cleans all the grease spatters and any other spatters you get on it Leave the Easy Off on until you see that you can wipe off the stains Wipe rinse and dry It will look brand new

I have had the same large Revere Ware Tea kettle for over 43yrs I use Bar Keepers Friend for cleaning the outside and the copper bottom With this cleanser you don t have to scrub or polish the copper or the stainless just put it on your sponge or sprinkle it right on the kettle like you would wash out your sink with any cleanser It can be bought at walmart bedbath beyond or your market I do not work or have anything to do with bar keepers friend but it works and makes my life easier Now for this Revere ware Tea kettle I don t know how the new ones are but like I said Mine is 43yrs old and looks almost as new as when I got it for a Bridal shower present and I use it all the time I just bought a new Vileroy Boch French garden tea kettle which looks cute but does not compare to this tea kettle I don t know why any of you think this is not so good looking When I put my Villeroy Boch on my new Stainless Bosch stove even my Daughter said that is tackie put your Revere ware one on your stove it looks Classier Now We are not into Country cutesie so if you are then maybe the Villeroy and boch one is for you The Revere Ware whisle can be heard but Not the other one The Revere ware I have NEVER had any trouble with It stays cool to handle and doesn t burn your hand Is easy to fill and I don t have to take a lid off or the end off when I m ready to use it I have never had any broken parts on mine My only complaint is you really cannot clean the inside but I put vinigar Bakeing soda inside it let it sit for a short time then rinse it out with soapy water then clear water Nobody has died yet of a dirty Tea kettle in my house A couple of weeks ago I forgot about the Tea Kettle and the water boiled out I thougth for sure I ruined it The bottom was gray ash When it cooled down I keeped rinseing the inside out and black specks of burnt something keeped coming out while trying to clean it out I used Vinagar baking soda rinsed that out boiled more water in it used soap and water keeped rinsing it out till not anymore black flakes came out Used my Bar Keepers Friend on the bottom top and all over This tea kettle is amazing It now works just like new and still looks like New I think if it was another tea kettle I would have had to throw it out I can see that the newer one has a different looking spout cover and the puller to pour the water looks different then mine and flumsy Enjoy o
